What's Twitter?

When people mention web 2.0 they also mention Twitter as an example. Twitter, as an application, enables people to post short messages (140 characters) to let your network or community of friends know what you're doing. That's pretty much what you will read at www.twitter.com about their mission : it's a service so that people can stay connected through exchanging short messages that answer only one question - what are you doing?

Some have suggested that Twitter can be a marketing tool. More about that in another post.

Will the force be with you?

Microsoft researchers developed a prototype of a force-sensing technology that will allow the user to apply different kinds of force to a device, like twisting or bending, to do flip through pages of a document or swing through applications.

The device has four sensors that detect how you're trying to manipulate it, so it doesn't even have to actually flexible. Researchers think the technology will complement—not replace—touchscreens, making devices more active and engaging.

XamBox - huh?

XamBox is an awesome solution dealing with the all the paper we handle daily in our paperless society. Documents, receipts, and business cards are scanned and dropped in a box. Software converts the paper to PDF (and turns it into text) and catalogs the sequence of the hard copy documents. When the box is full, you label it, seal it, and store it. When you need the document, the software tells you where you can find it. If you want, you can simply print a copy.

This device is from a French company, Xamance. We could not find any pricing information.

Chat on Facebook

Facebook announced that they launch Facebook Chat this week. The announcement, made via a post Facebook's blog, says that the rollout will be slow and there won't be anything for you to install when it arrives in your profile - you'll just have a new "Chat Bar" at the bottom of your browser.

In addition to the pop-out feature, Facebook Chat lets you appear "offline" if you don't want to chat. The conversations are private, and the chat sessions history is saved from page to page and between login sessions. You can also clear the chat history at any time using a provided link in the conversation window to do so.
